We had the great good fortune to work with Paul Mills at his Millstream studio in Toronto on our latest CD, "Down to Earth." Paul is an amazing producer, great musician, and a nice person to boot! He's worked with some of the best, including the late Stan Rogers, and we're very flattered that he asked us to record with him.
Tracy is one of our all-time favorite performers, as well as someone we admire immensely. Her grace and courage after the death of her partner, the brilliant songwriter Dave Carter, have been an inspiration to us, and we're certain, to many others, as well. After Dave's death, our song "Dreamsong" felt as though it should be sung for him, as well as for the dear friend for whom we'd written it. We asked Tracy to play violin on "Dreamsong," as well as on Down to Earth's opening cut, "Pictures." Fortunately she said yes, and we love the result!
When Paul was looking at the Millstream website (see the link), he saw a photo of Tom Leighton. He thought it couldn't be the Tom Leighton he knew in high school, and who was the very first person he played music with. Of course it WAS that Tom Leighton, and we were fortunate enough to have him play piano and accordion on our Down to Earth CD. Tom and his musical partner Mark Haines are terrific musicians, and are great fun in live performance. We especially like their CD, Optimists' Jig. Check it out!
